Have I just missed that? Have they always been this way?
Only since 1914!
my wife and i have recently gotten hooked on the history channel's series, vikings.
(my wife is full blooded norwegian....).
to be honest, the show is quite graphic in spots, but certainly no more so than a history book i own of the same time period.. anyhow, we made the mistake of mentioning the show if front of jw's last night and they were all thoroughly shocked that we watch it.. i tried pointing out that big chunks of the ot are not materially different and that even the confrontation between david and goliath would get an 'r' rating if it were visually portrayed in any detail at all.

so at the assembly to day that nitwit lett gave a talk....i noticed right away he had a pinky ring.
i asked my wife what was the purpose of the pinky ring?
and then asked....would jesus wear a pinky?
would jesus wear a pinky?
That's actually a pretty good point.
(1 John 2:16) . . .the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. . .
i was considering getting another copy of one of ray's books and was shocked about the market value.
is ray's book worth $1,000?
perhaps, but it is a bit shocking.
Probably the Governing Body bought all the books and now they are reselling them for a profit. You know, they are pretty sly at making a profit on anything they can get their hands on. That's probably why they asked for all the money- to buy all of Ray's books. Those dirty bastards.
.
ok bear with me for second on this one..... i was just reading the other day about "pitchf/x", a type of technology that can accurately track whether a pitch in baseball is a ball or a strike.. a couple of analysts went over 6 years of baseball data.. it turns out that umpires are wrong about balls & strikes about 14% of the time.
what they call a "ball" is really a "strike" about 13% of the time, and what they call a "strike" is really a "ball" about 15% of the time.
here is the article.. that's at the major league level.. umpires have to work their way up to the major leagues, just as players do.

A JW friend recently told me that the Elders said JC decisions are never wrong. They are directed by Holy Spirit.
Years back I was told the same thing when this lady committed suicide after she was disfellowshipped. The elder tried to convinced me that the lady would have committed suicide anyway because she committed porneia..
would it really affect them?
how would it affect volunteers at any construction project since that work would now be taxable.
any materials they buy would be taxable.
You guys are cracking me up with your descriptions!

The Watchtower and its multiple corporations would have their little white belly turned upward and exposed to ravenous predators

If there were any hint of that approaching you'd suddenly see more "new light" than an 100,000 candlepower halogen lamp.
Firstly, C.O.'s would lose their "parasite" status

Would it really affect them? How would it affect volunteers at any construction project since that work would now be taxable. Any materials they buy would be taxable. Any property they buy would be taxable by the city as property tax assets. Any contributions such as-money, property, Wills and Trusts, would now be taxable according to the law. How would it affect Circuit Overseers since their work would now be considered taxable? Would they now have to pay salaries and social security to the Circuit Overseers and permanent Bethel workers? The work of regular pioneers could be taxable.
Would this bring them down more than the Lawsuits?
Could they continue?
haven't been on this site since fall of last year.
i was very active in spreading awareness and getting information to help me cope with the fact that my mother cut off complete communication with me as of jan 2014, but i guess too much of a good thing was too much for me to handle.
i ended up getting panic/anxiety attacks.
The dr asked me to maybe try and pin point the triggers and so far....looks like it stems from anytime I read or respond to a JW rant about how I"m wrong and they are right. Or it could be an article in the news talking about cults. Anything that is remotely related to JW's gets my blood boiling and I react. I feel really stuck and upset that I always said I was not going to let the Watchtower have an emotional hold on my feelings and space in my head but it seems like they are winning.
You just pin pointed the triggers that cause you distress. You need to stay away from the triggers-JW RANT- that upsets you until you get to the point where you can handle the jw rant. Start filling your mind with anything not related to JWism.
the latest controversy over the confederate flag just sums up to me the state of dysfunction that exists in american society.. in summary: a white supremacist nutter shoots 9 black people dead in a church.
he's clearly inspired by the messages of others which the confederate flag is often a symbol of.. it seems like a no-brainer to remove it.
not only isn't it removed, it isn't even lowered at all as a mark of respect.. and of course now there are the people who want to defend their right to have it.
am i the only one who has single, desperate sisters in the congregation?
they tend to be holier-than-thou, frumpty, but in private talk about getting married.
but they don't understand why no brother will look at them.

Sisters with knee length skirts, high heels and make up = need to be a little more "spiritual."
I guess I was in the None-spiritual - weak - congregation because most of the young sisters wore black pencil tight skirts and bubble dresses 3 or 4 inches above the knees.
Now that I do miss.
all of my years in the truth, i never understood why we had to study before each meeting.
the contents are self-explanatory with the answers to the printed question within the first or the last sentence of the paragraph.
then, commenting never made sense, especially comments and experiences that don't answer the printed question.

Our WT conductor bragged, in a service meeting interview, that he literally goes over the article 4 separate times in advance, prior to conducting the study.
I got a better one. An old coot used to brag that he started on Monday and each day after that till Saturday night. Once each day. When the CO heard about it, they had him give his experience in one of the Circuit Assemblies and everyone clapped like crazy. Total hours studying one article, between 12-15 hours.
His wife ran off with a worldly man.
